– Named Digital Journalist of the Year 2011 at the Association of Online Publishers’ Awards 2011
In June 2011 I had the great honour of winning the digital journalist of the year award at the Association of Online Publishers’ Awards ceremony. Essentially the Oscars of the digital journalism world, it was a wonderful night for me and The Telegraph Media Group, which walked away with a total of four awards.
Celebrations and lots of champagne all round…
Here’s what the judges said about me:
“Emma has made The Telegraph’s Technology channel a must-read destination for breaking news, and has helped shift coverage from feature-led to breaking news-led, ensuring the beat became a priority for the newsroom. Through her efforts, The Telegraph has shifted from being known as a leader at implementing technology, to an editorial authority on the topic.
“Emma has achieved high profile in the sector, delivering strong growth for the Telegraph Tech brand in both readership and commercial terms in a highly competitive market.”
- Digital Writer of the Year 2011: Online Media Awards, sponsored by Press Association
June 2011 turned out to be an incredible month, as after winning a prestigious AOP award, I was then named Digital Writer of the Year at the inaugural Online Media Awards. It was a fantastic night and a great gong to win. Very chuffed indeed.
- Red Magazine’s Hot List 2011: 20 women under 30 to watch
I am thrilled to have made it into Red Magazine’s annual ’20 under 30′ Hot List – which selects the most up and coming women under the age of 30, across a range of industries, who are the ‘ones to watch’. The Government’s Digital Champ, Martha Lane Fox, kindly endorsed me – click below to read her lovely words.
And The Telegraph also got behind me with this great little piece.
- Ninth most influential journalist on Twitter 2011
At the start of 2011, I was ranked the ninth most influential UK journalist on Twitter out of 900 hacks by Peer Index, a leading social media index. It was a proud moment indeed, which I obviously marked with several happy tweets.
– Shortlisted for PTC’s New Business News Journalist of the Year 2008
After earning my reporting stripes at Media Week covering the fast-moving TV and radio beats, my great editor put me up for this award which recognises the UK’s brightest emerging magazine journalists. I was thrilled to make the shortlist, as I said in this piece at the time.
